Douglas Lake General Store

We would like to welcome you to come and visit our General Store.  It is located in the heart of Douglas Lake Ranch. The store is still housed in one of the original Ranch buildings, preserving our history with rustic charm. We are open year round serving the more than twenty families living and working on the Ranch. During our peak season, May through October, we are visited by tourist and avid fly fishermen from all corners of the world. Our store carries a wide selection of groceries, fresh produce, clothing, souvenirs, western tack, farm fresh eggs, and of course, cuts from our famous beef. So, drop in for a cup of coffee and a slice of the past where good country hospitality is just a way of life.

Quilchena General Store

Since 1912, the Quilchena General Store has served the local community in providing quality merchandise at honest prices. Originally built to supply stagecoach-related businesses with supplies, the Quilchena General Store has been a bustling depot of activity and news since 1912. Gas pumps have now replaced the hitching rails but you can still swap stories around the pot bellied stove. Quilchena General Store is a treasure chest of local art and jewelry, groceries and fishing licences, outdoor wear and cowboy hats. The store is a Canada Post office outlet and is open all year round.

canada's largest working cattle ranch

The "Douglas Lake Cattle Company" was founded June 30, 1886 and has been operating continuously since. In response to booming demand for beef in rapidly-growing Vancouver, the Interior stock industry went into high gear in the wake of the Canadian Pacific Railway's opening, spurring on something of a golden age in BC ranching. Today the Ranch houses not only a large number of resident employees, it also accommodates the many tourists and fly fishing enthusiasts each year to enjoy the beauty of the lakes that are scattered within.

Douglas Lake Ranch has the single largest unit of open grassland in the Region.  Douglas Lake Ranch’s ability to sustain such an impressive herd of cattle is derived from the careful management of the natural grasses including the indigenous Bluebunch Wheatgrass.
